Safety First

Prevent Accidents – Check your Wiring and Installations!

As most electrical contractors will tell you, many electrical fires in homes and offices are a result of old or incorrectly installed electrical systems. These potentially costly accidents are avoidable – and Janco Electrical advises that you take note of the following:

Worn and/or damaged plugs, sockets and insulation

Electrical plugs and sockets have a limited lifespan, as does wiring insulation. Routine inspections and replacement of these items when necessary will help to avoid fire risk.

Outdated circuit breakers and fuse boxes

Many old circuit breakers and fuses are incapable of adequately handling the higher voltages of modern-day equipment. Overloading can cause fires, so it is best to have a reputable contractor such as Janco Electrical replace these items with more modern ones.

Overloaded circuits (spaghetti or octopus connections)

One of the biggest mistakes people make, and also one of the most dangerous in terms of fire hazards, is using multiple extension cords, adapters and plugs to increase the number of electrical outlets in the house without increasing the number of circuits. This has the potential to overload the circuit and causes overheating and fires.
